Collaboration with Rambert Dance Company

BA Costume Design 3rd year students at Wimbledon College of Art, collaborated with Mark Baldwin to create their own designs for the Rambert’s new show Seven for a Secret, Never to be Told.

“Working with Mark Baldwin during our final year at Wimbledon College of Art has given us a valuable insight into the world of professional dance and design.

Mark was inspirational to talk to and work with. He showed genuine enthusiasm and interest in our design work and encouraged us to meet the standards that he would expect from professional designers.  We were lucky enough to be able to sit in on company rehearsals.  The energy and grace of the dancers were very inspiring. Watching them helped us to consider the practicalities of the costumes as well as the design elements.” Kirsty Bell – BA Costume Design student.

Wimbledon Theatre graduate wins Emmy Award

Imagine landing your dream job. Now imagine winning an Emmy Award for it. This fantasy came true for former Wimbledon BA Costume Interpretation alumna Caroline McCall.

Caroline started off her career at art college in Belfast before moving to Wimbledon College of Art. She then went on to train with the BBC and is now responsible for some of the eye-catching costumes worn by the Downton Abbey cast on the ITV show. Caroline McCall has been working as assistant costume designer alongside Susannah Buxton the costume designer. On Saturday the pair picked up an Emmy for their work.

Congratulations to Caroline McCall.

Nicki Rolls: Wimbledon MA students wins Jerwood Award

Nicki Rolls who recently completed an MA in Fine Art at Wimbledon, has won the Student Jerwood Award for her piece Sketch. Sketch is a black and white film, which has been digitally animated and projected on an open book. The piece explores ‘the idea of writing movement with light and the relationship between film, animation and drawing.’

We would like to congratulate Nicki on her success!

An exhibition of selected works will take place at JVA at Jerwood Space, London from 14 September – 30 October 2011. The exhibition will then tour nationally.

Fantich & Young Exhibit Red In Tooth And Claw

Mariana Fantich Wimbledon’s Digital Media Technician is opening Red In Tooth And Claw her and Dominic Youngs exhibition at the beginning of October. Fantich & Young’s sculpture Double Games; Red In Tooth And Claw deploys 300.000 Sheffield steel stanley blades to subvert the competitive attributes of vintage school gymnasium apparatus.

Fantich and Dominic Young have lived in Hackney Wick for over six years and have seen first hand the massive urban transformation due to the successful London Olympic bid. To them the Olympic site is like a mini city within a vast metropolis, it reflects the identity of its host. The Olympic Games like London share similar personality traits; they actively endorse ruthless competitiveness, hierarchal objectives and statistic driven targets. It’s quite apt then that the work is being shown in the Hackney Wick area at SEE Studio within the vicinity of the 2012 Olympic Games site.
