Michael O’Reilly's Winning paintings
19Jan
Micheal O’Reilly a third year painting student recently won the Hans Brinker Budget Trophy, in Amsterdam. This annual competition open to students from 5 English Art Colleges and 3 Dutch Art Colleges culminates in visitors voting for their favourite work.
The paintings above are the ones Michael entered.
In short, the paintings are about constructing situations which ask us to question the validity of the image; at times the scenarios aim to appear unexplainable, peculiar as though we the viewer are encountering some sort of phenomena. They often use vast expanses of landscapes to suggest what we are seeing is to do with encroaching power not only in the subject ( the bear/ the train) but the place we find it/them in as well.
Congratualtions Michael! Iam sure the money will come in useful in your final year!
